Title fraud is on the rise in Florida. Don’t wait until your property is deeded to someone before you to take action.
How can this happen? Step 1 – usually, a fraudster forges a deed transferring your real property to their company and records the forged deed at the County Recording Office. Step 2 – the fraudster tries to sell or mortgage “your” property. The County Recording Office is not required to verify the validity of a deed presented for recording.
What can you do to help protect yourself? Go to www.flclerks.com/page/PropertyAlertServices, choose your County (most are available, they all should be by July 1, 2024) and register to have the name in which your property is held monitored within the Recording Office to track possible fraudulent recordings. Also, check the County Recording Office periodically for fraudulent documents.
